Hi, I'm Mandy. If you're looking for tips on pool construction, you've come to the right place. We've just had a new pool installed and I'm full of advice! When I started on our pool I thought it would be an easy build. Boy, was I wrong. I didn't know anything about building a pool apart from the fact I wanted one. Luckily, our construction company set me straight. They helped me work out how big the pool could be and they showed me which shape would suit our yard space. They sorted out permits and even gave me advice on fencing. To find out what I learned, read through my blog. Hope it helps!

Whether cooking or socialising, you probably use your kitchen in many different ways, so when building a new home, your design needs to allow for this multifunctional nature. A contemporary style will provide a flexible, comfortable and attractive space. Here are some key factors that make up this aesthetic.
1. Dark, Light Contrast
While some contemporary kitchens feature vast swathes of white or creamy surfaces—from flooring to cabinetry to walls—others inject strong contrast. You can do this is a multitude of ways. You could set black granite flooring or a black splashback against white cabinetry. Or you could paint a dark charcoal accent wall in contrast to pale benchtops and cupboards. This style mainly uses neutral colours like grey, browns and blacks, but at times they include a pop of vibrant colour—think of a red back-painted glass splashback in an otherwise all-white kitchen.
2. Diverse Materials
Contemporary kitchens are known for their mix of diverse materials. Stainless steel, stone, timber, glass, concrete, plastic, acrylic and chrome all become part of the landscape. While this diversity creates richness and interest, the look remains clean because of the smooth textured expanses with little detail. Think of the pure vision of a granite cliff against a steel-grey sky.
3. Clutter-Free
Contemporary look kitchens avoid decorative elements such as ornamental cabinet handles or contoured cupboards. Instead, flat-door cabinets and clean-cut furniture remain bare and clutter-free. Linear shapes and straight lines maintain the smooth and polished look—though curving elements in the form of waterfall benchtops can play a part also.
4. Open, Airy Spaces
This style attempts to maximise feelings of space and openness and to avoid busy, cramped, claustrophobic effects. Clear benchtops and neat layouts are essential, so avoid filling up countertops with gadgets and utensils. Instead, conceal appliances within custom-built cabinetry, and provide enough convenient storage to keep the benchtop free. Open floor plans that allow natural flowing light help to maintain an airy feeling. Large glass windows and doors, at times, add to the aesthetic, blurring the inside-outside divide.
5. Accessories
When decorating a contemporary kitchen, make sure to tone down accessories. Windows typically have simple or no coverings. You can add to the look with abstract art pieces in vibrant hues against a neutrally toned backdrop. Patterns don't usually play a role in these designs, as lack of detailing and ornamentation are key elements. Of course, though, you can have your take and break the rules to create a personalised space that you love to spend time in. Your home builders can help to create your own version of this lovely style.
